Early in 2005 we found out there was going to be a Festival of Erotica in Manchester. Louise and I thought it would be a fun day out and after speaking to a couple of our friends, four of us purchased tickets and set out on a day of adventure.
Once we were parked at the G-Mex Centre and heading to the door with our tickets, nerves did set in a little – not embarrassment as much fear of the unknown. But once inside the brightly lit and busy exhibition hall we very soon noticed it was full of normal people and not the sex-crazed loonies we had been anticipating.
One photographers’ stand John Lyons of Girlzart caught our eye and we spent some time chatting and looking at his work and eventually decided a piece of erotic art would look good on our wall at home.
When we purchased the work our names were added to a prize draw that he was running. As we were leaving the show, we found out we had won the draw! So after a great day out we left with loads of information, freebies, a piece of art and a voucher for £500 for a photo shoot.
A few weeks later we traveled to Stockport to John’s studio where Louise had a great time and even felt brave enough to do some tasteful nude poses.
The photographer spent time talking to me and told me that I should try working with models as I already had an interest in motorsport photography.
A few weeks later, John arrived at our house with a hard-backed book containing Louise’s images. Louise was thrilled with the results. So thrilled that she has since become a part-time model. I decided to try working with people instead of cars and that has worked really well for me.
As for Erotica, we still visit the London show when we can and will continue to do so as we have made some great friends through the experience and are dedicated to informing people that Erotica is nothing to be scared of attending and it can really change your lives.
